Braver Angels Houston Alliance brings together people with political and societal differences to strengthen our democratic republic through honest, respectful conversation.
In this time of extreme division, we believe that through dedicated, collective action we can restore our faith and trust in each other. Will you join us?
BRAVER ANGELS MISSION
The Houston Alliance is a local chapter of Braver Angels, the nation’s largest cross-partisan, volunteer-led movement promoting Courageous Citizenship.
Courageous Citizenship is the practice of engaging constructively with fellow citizens across political and social differences, expressing convictions honestly while respecting those who disagree, and working together to strengthen communities and democratic self-government.
We state our views freely and fully, without fear.
We treat people who disagree with us with honesty, dignity and respect.
We welcome opportunities to engage those with whom we disagree.
We believe all of us have blind spots and none of us are not worth talking to.
We seek to disagree accurately, avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes.
We look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together.
We believe that, in disagreements, both sides share and learn.
In Braver Angels, neither side is teaching the other or giving feedback on how to think or say things differently.
HOUSTON AREA ALLIANCE
The Braver Angels Houston Area Alliance was founded in 2022 to serve the nine unique counties of Greater Houston. We don't try to make people agree. We create spaces where people can talk honestly, listen with respect, and see each other as neighbors, not enemies.
We’re working to broaden our membership and welcome people from every walk of life. We especially encourage participation from conservatives, liberals, independents, politically unaffiliated individuals, communities of faith, residents of suburban and rural areas, and people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Help us bring more voices and experiences to the conversation. Reach out and get involved!

You meet people you might never talk to.
— Our events mix people who lean conservative and people who lean liberal, in about equal numbers.
You follow clear ground rules.
— Trained volunteers guide each conversation. Everyone gets a fair turn. No one is put on the spot. We welcome people of every race, faith, orientation, gender, language, and background. We don't assume what someone believes based on who they are or where they live.
You leave with skills, not a new party.
— You'll practice listening, asking better questions, and sharing your view so others can actually hear it.
Speak for yourself. Share your own experience, not what "everyone" on your side thinks.
Listen to understand. Try to explain the other person's view in a way they'd agree with.
Be curious. Ask real questions, not "gotcha" questions.
Take turns. Moderators make sure everyone gets fair time.
Keep it here. What people share stays in the room unless they say it's okay to repeat.
No.
Some workshops need equal numbers of Reds and Blues. If one side is full, you may be invited to watch as an observer, or to a later event. Observers learn a lot too.
CO-CHAIRS
Every Braver Angels group is led by at least one conservative and one liberal, working as equals. That's not just a rule. It's how we keep each other honest.
